A FAULTY portable electric heater started a fire which burnt carpet and floorboards of a house in Matlock Grove, Burnley.
The heater burnt approximately two square metres of carpet in a bedroom in the house, and the floorboards below were also damaged by the fire.

Two adults and three children were in the house when the fire started at 8 p.m. on Sunday.

They managed to put out the fire after being alerted by a smoke alarm, and fire-fighters who were called to the scene fully extinguished the floorboards which were also affected by the heat and smoke.
There was some smoke damage to the bedroom. No-one in the house needed any medical treatment.
