A BURNLEY Freemasons' Lodge opened its doors to the public for a special evening.
Shuttleworth Lodge welcomed the Mayor and Mayoress of Burnley, Coun. John Harbour and Mrs Gillian Harbour, to its Lodge meeting at Nelson House, Burnley, with other dignitaries and representatives of organisations which the Freemasons have supported in recent years.

The guests were given a brief history of Freemasonry from worshipful brother Jim Sutcliffe, the assistant provincial grand master for Burnley, Pendle and Rossendale, and an explanation on how masonic charities raise money for worthy causes from worshipful brother David Biggs, district chairman for Burnley and Pendle.

The representatives then explained how the money donated by Burnley and Pendle Freemasons, which so far this year has been around £34,000, had been put to good use in helping those in need in our communities.

Among those speaking were the Mayor of Burnley, and representatives from East Lancashire Women's Refuge Association, Pendleside Hospice, Pendle View Primary School, Burnley General Hospital Urgent Care Centre and the Place2Be.

After the meeting, Lodge members and their guests sat down to a buffet dinner provided by Matt Patterson-Farnworth the Burnley Masonic Hall catering manager.
