A WEEKEND of fun and excitement awaits Burnley families when the sixth annual Burnley Balloon Festival gets under way in Towneley Park today.

Visitors will get the chance to see hot air balloons in the sky, find out how the balloons are inflated and witness a mass launch as they take to the skies.

There will also be the opportunity to win tethered balloon flights.

Other events in the arena include Mega Mini's Stunt Team, Vander Brothers and the Wheel of Death, Fred's Flying Circus and Bill Heslop and his sheep dogs.

There is also a mini-market as well as the grand finale of Burnley's Got Talent.

Also part of the three-day spectacular will be a world record attempt by John Evans, who will balance commercial tyres on his head. He hopes to break his own Guinness world record, which currently stands at 10.

The highlight of the weekend will be a spectacular fireworks display and Night Glow where the balloons light up to music.

The balloon festival kicks off at 4 p.m. today and will be open until 9-30 p.m. It will be on between 10 a.m. and 10 p.m. tomorrow and 10 a.m. and 8-30 p.m. on Sunday.
