BREWERS WORLD CUP WIN

A BURNLEY brewerys World Cup win is being celebrated with a huge banner on the side of its Accrington Road warehouse.
Moorhouses, whose Pride of Pendle beer captured the top title of Champion Cask Conditioned Ale trophy at the Beer Industry International Awards, has this week unveiled the large banner to let people know it brews the best ale in the world.
At the same ceremony, Moorhouses Premier Bitter scooped a gold medal in the lower strength category making it the only UK brewery to have international acclaim for all its core beers following previous success for its Black Cat and Pendle Witches Brew ales. Mr David Grant, Moorhouse's general manager, said: "Winning the International Awards' Cask Championship is, in brewing terms, like bringing the World Cup back to Burnley and we have hung up the banner to tell everyone in the town that our cask beer is now officially recognised as the best in the world.
"Demand is growing rapidly and we have already stepped up to seven-day production and made the decision to further expand our capacity with the new investment to meet it.
"But, although Moorhouse's has a heritage going back 140 years, many people in the town don't even know we exist. And due to the big pub companies' iron grip on many of the town's pubs many landlords are not free to sell our ale, although when our beers are on the bar they can actually increase a pub's turnover. To really celebrate our success this year I would like to see more local people having the chance to sample our beers."
Tours of the brewery can be arranged for groups of 15 to 40 people Tuesday to Thursday evenings and include beer samples and a pie and peas supper. Anyone wishing to organise a tour should contact the brewery on 422864.
