FOR the real panto experience head to Burnley Mechanics over the next 10 days as Burnley Panto Society bring the nearest thing we have to a professional pantomime - but at greatly reduced prices and with local people taking the honours.

The producer of "Ali Baba And The 40 Thieves" is Howard G. Raw, who has put on some spectacular pantos for the society over the years, always full of fun and colour.

It opens tonight at Burnley Mechanics with Ali Baba played by James Cockerill, Kathy Anderson as Marjana, and the producer himself as Dame Fatima Fandango with his partner in fun Neil Tranmer as Mustafa Screwloose.

James Dryden is Crown Prince Haroun, Natalie Graham is Princess Jasmine, Stephen Dixon is Asbad, Peter Morville plays Bashim, David Pilkington Grabbit, and Maria Masterman-Booth is the baddie Alsatia. Kath Watkins is Catrina, Victoria Whitham is Scheherade and Martin Chadwick is the Sultan. The Grand Vizier is Roger Dugdale.

To book ring the box office on 01282 664400.
