YOUNG people aged three to 18 walked through the doors of Burnley Campus today as they began the school year in a brand new £31m. building.

The Barden Lane campus, which houses the Thomas Whitham Sixth Form, Barden Primary School, Holly Grove School, Reedley Hallows Nursery School and Children's Centre, as well as a library, sports facilities and a faith centre, is one of two buildings to open in the first wave of the £250m. Building Schools for the Future scheme.

The opening of the campus was branded "exciting" by staff and council representatives.

Mr Stuart Smith, head of the sixth form, said: "It's a great relief to be in this fabulous facility. It will be of great benefit not just for the sixth form students but for all the community."

Leader of Lancashire County Council Coun. Hazel Harding said: "It is absolutely fantastic, it is better than I imagined. It is a great investment for the community of Burnley."

Today also saw the opening of Padiham's new superschool, Shuttleworth College, in Burnley Road.
