EXPERTS from a major high street bank could help to breathe life into a 10-year plan to build a brilliant future for Burnley.
The Royal Bank of Scotland has been enlisted by the Burnley Vision Board to advise on the best ways to draw in investment and boost the borough's business economy.

The board is developing a wide-reaching strategy to transform and revolutionise the borough in all areas from business, education and transport to manufacturing, leisure and retail, over the next decade.
It aims to bring a new look and a new attitude for Burnley.

Plans are being masterminded by the Burnley Vision Board, made up of key business leaders from the borough and backed by Burnley Council.

Five big ideas make up the strategy for 2017. They are:

Build up an entrepreneurial culture and a reputation as a place to do business;

Establish Burnley as a key modern retail area in East Lancashire.

Make Burnley a centre for educational excellence to build a highly skilled and qualified workforce;

Be known as a good destination for living, working and leisure, based on high quality housing and work; and

Develop a reputation as an important manufacturing base, combining existing businesses, new companies and new work spaces.

A big action plan for each sector is being drawn up and will be used by the North West Development Agency to try to attract large investments and projects into Burnley from the public and private sectors.

Don't miss Tuesday's Express for more on the plans.

Not another 10-year Masterplan. The previous one was only completed at the end of last year. Why do the Burnley Express insist on uncritically printing 'good news' stories fed to them by a friendly press officer at the council? It's about time our journalists did more than recycle other people's press releases, and do a bit of real-life investigative reporting - why we get masterplan after masterplan but little real change would be a good starter for ten.

By the way, who on earth are the Burnley Vision Board? Another name for the same useless bunch of non-entities shuffled into a different order, ekeing out regeneration money from Whitehall to pay themselves for the last few years until they're able to retire with a public pension? Just a thought.

Masterplan, Big Action Plan, Experts, Vision, Big Brains.! Yes we've heard it all before. I guess they will have a catchy slogan too like, Cotton on To Burnley, Miles Better, Blah Blah Blah.

Why ask a Bank to do this stuff, surely it should be Government Agencies sorting this out who are already paid and empowered! Lets face it, this will be an initiative that will go no where, just to make it look like something is being done.

If they can't get a retailer like Debenhams here then the rest is just nonesense and a non-starter.

I too have a ten year plan for Burnley - not to be here in 10 years!
