BURNLEY are hoping to negotiate a deal for Latvian Under 21 international winger Aleksandrs Solovjovs.
The Olimps Riga youngster spent last week training with the Clarets, and featured in the friendlies against Glentoran, Bradford and Inverness.

And a representative was today despatched to Latvia to try and smooth over a transfer for the talented wide man.

It is believed his club value him at £400,000, and although Solovjovs appeared to be close to agreeing a move to UEFA Cup holders Zenit St Petersburg, who are looking to replace Euro 2008 star Andrei Arshavin, the player is thought to prefer to move to English football, having previously trained with Chelsea, and been a target for then-Blackburn boss Mark Hughes.

I understand Owen Coyle is not prepared to go as far as that price tag for Solovjovs, but is hopeful of a compromise with Riga, who were knocked out of the UEFA Cup by St Patrick's Athletic on Thursday night.
Coyle said on Saturday after Solovjovs' brief cameo against Caley: "He's certainly not a free agent. There's finance involved in that as well.

"It was difficult for him coming on in the game. He wasn't at the level he showed the other night (at Bradford), but having said that, we were playing a team that plays at the top level in Scotland.

"We'll look at it, and it's only fair that I speak to Aleksandrs and his representative first."

As far as other new faces stand, the search continues: "It's an ongoing procedure. We're still making calls and speaking to the relevant clubs."

Talking last week about the possibility of new additions, Coyle said: "It might involve juggling a few balls. There might be one or two who we think aren't going to play week in, week out, and if there's interest in them, then that's something we have to look at, but at this moment in time we'll work hard with what we've got."

But he revealed no-one is likely to leave Turf Moor in the near future: "I haven't canvassed for anybody to be leaving. People call you and there have been a couple of tentative enquiries about different things. But that's all that's in it. There's nothing imminent in that at the moment."
