STEPHEN Jordan is looking forward to returning to Manchester City on Saturday.
But while he is pleased to see his boyhood club enjoying life as one of the wealthiest in the world, he wonders whether the hugely-successful City production line may come to a halt as a result.
Mark Hughes spent around £100m. over the summer bringing in the likes of Gareth Barry, Roque Santa Cruz, Carlos Tevez, Kolo Toure and Joleon Lescott to Eastlands, and the Blues are looking capable of breaking the established Big Four and ending a wait for major silverware which stretches back to 1976.
Jordan came through the ranks at City, along with the likes of Shaun and Bradley Wright-Phillips, Joey Barton, Micah Richards, Michael Johnson, Nedum Onuoha, Kasper Schmeichel, Stephen Elliott, Chris Killen and Stephen Ireland.
And he has his reservations about the future of youth in the blue half of Manchester: "When's the next Academy player going to come through there? I think that's going to stop now.
"There's Stevie Ireland and Micah - they're established now, and Nedum Onuoha. He's doing well.
"It's a bit crazy what's going on there really, but they've started well.
"You just wonder whether they will gel well together or not, but time will tell.
"I think everybody enjoys going back to their former club, so that will be a nice one for me."
Jordan, 27, will return to City, where he made 51 appearances having joined their youth development system as an eight-year-old, as an established performer at Burnley.
After two years where he has been in and out of the side due to injury and competition for places, he has started every Premier League game so far, and been one of the club's standout players.
When he left City on a free transfer in the summer of 2007, it was hard to leave the club he supported as a boy, but he sensed the potential for success at Turf Moor: "Definitely. Especially last year when the team started playing well, we thought 'we can beat any team in the Championship', and we proved that we could to get where we are.
"The aim is to stay in the league, not get carried away, and build from there really."
