Burnley Football Club has smashed their transfer record to secure the signing of Hibernian striker Steven Fletcher for a club record £3million fee.
The highly-rated 22-year-old has agreed a four-year deal at Turf Moor.

Fletcher, who has four full caps for Scotland, scored 52 goals in nearly 190 appearances for the Easter Road outfit and has a strong desire to further his career in England's top flight.

After progressing through the youth ranks at Hibernian, Fletcher made his full debut towards the end of the 2003/04 season and went on to feature regularly in the 2004/05 campaign, scoring 5 goals in 26 appearances.

The Shrewsbury-born player took on a more prominent role in the 2006/07 season when he scored two goals in the 5-1 win over Kilmarnock in the Scottish League Cup Final.

Fletcher progressed to become Hibs' main striker during the 2007/08 campaign, scoring his first professional hat-trick in a 4-2 win over Gretna, before winning the Scottish Football Writers' Young Player of the Year Award to cap off a memorable season.

The Scottish international continued his impressive form last season, scoring 11 goals, which brought him to the attention of several clubs, including Celtic who had a multi-million-pound approach rejected in January 2009.

At international level, Fletcher made his debut for Scotland under 21's in the 2004/05 season and was top scorer in the under-19 side, which reached the final of the 2006 European Championship.

Fletcher received his debut call-up to the senior squad in March 2008 against Croatia and went on to score his first full international goal in a 2-1 win against Iceland in April's World Cup Qualifier at Hampden.

The striker becomes Burnley's second Barclay's Premier League signing, following the capture of Tyrone Mears earlier on Tuesday.

Burnley's previous transfer record was set last summer, when Martin Paterson and Chris Eagles both joined the Clarets in deals worth around £1.5m.
