BURNLEY forward Alex MacDonald has again been called up to the Scotland Under 19 squad.
The 18-year-old, who picked up his first cap last month against Holland, has been named in an 18-man squad for the European Championship Qualifying Round tournament in Hungary, between 16th-26th October.

Billy Stark's side play three games, against Azerbaijan on October 20th, San Marino on October 22nd and hosts Hungary on October 25th.

However, MacDonald, who has yet to make an appearance for the first team so far this season, will miss Burnley's Championship games against Birmingham City, Coventry City and Charlton Athletic.

Clarets boss Owen Coyle is delighted to see the youngster establishing himself on the international scene: "We are delighted for Alex. He may miss some games, but he goes with our blessing because it is not every day you are called up for your country.

"Alex was unfortunate to pick up an injury early in his Under 19 debut against Holland last month, and it is great news that he has again earned selection.

"It gives him another opportunity of experiencing football at international level, which can only be good for Alex and Burnley Football Club."

MacDonald, who scored his first senior goal in pre-season at St Johnstone, just months after being crowned as Burnley's Youth Team player of the year, added: "It's a great honour.

"My debut was cut short through injury and I can't wait to put the Scotland shirt on again and hopefully do the country proud."

Should Scotland emerge from their qualifying group, they will take part in an Elite qualifying group next Spring, where the finalists for next summer's U19 European Championships will be decided.
