The Clarets were shut out for the second successive league game, and boast just one league goal in four outings to date.

But Coyle feels as long as his players keep up their present work-rate, the tide will turn in their favour sooner rather than later.

Speaking after the goal-less draw with Plymouth, he said: "We were just missing a goal.

"We changed it and changed systems within the game, we committed more players forward, and even with 10 men we still went forward trying to get the win.

"I think we just needed that little bit of luck and that break that goes with it sometimes.

"And we could have done without coming up against a keeper that's not as inspired as (Julian) Speroni was (at Crystal Palace).

But that's what they're there for, to make those big saves and they've done that two weeks in a row now.

"We've got quality and boys that can score goals, they just have to stay true to themselves and to their beliefs, and that will turn for them.

"But the most important thing is if we continue getting clean sheets then you'll win your share of games, no doubt about it."

He added: "It's a source of frustration, when you draw a game 0-0 that you should have won when you've had the bulk of play, of course it is.

"Plymouth paid us a huge compliment, but you have to break teams like that down, and we did have enough opportunities within the game to do that.

"You've got to keep building on what you're doing, and when the chances come we've got proven goalscorers, and I'm pretty sure they'll hit the back of the net.

"The positives, considering we shipped a few goals earlier in the season it was another clean sheet, but I felt it was always going to be a clean sheet.

"Plymouth were always going to be dangerous at set plays because they have good delivery and they have a physical presence, but I certainly can't recall in open play that they had a chance, or a real goalscoring opportunity.

"We kept pushing on trying to get the win, because that's what we're after; we're looking to win these games.

"Overall we're certainly disappointed not to get the three points – I can't fault the effort and the endeavour but I think we can certainly improve on our speed of passing.

"The pitch was very sticky and there was a tendency to for players to run with the ball when really we should have been passing it."

As for the sending off of Chris Eagles late on, for an alleged kick at Plymouth left back Chris Barker, Coyle admitted that the former Manchester United midfielder will be punished internally, as well as receive his three-game ban: "I'm surmising that he must have lashed out in some form.

"The Championship's a very high level, but he's shown the ability that he's got – the keeper's had an unbelievable save from him in the first half and he's made a few great runs.

"Regardless of whether you're finding your feet or not, the bottom line is you don't get caught up in that sort of stuff – it's schoolboy isn't it, we all know that.

"And if you are feeling frustrated, you just need to have the mindset that you've got 94-95 minutes – whatever it is – to win a game.

"There's absolutely no excuse for it and he'll be punished accordingly."
