BURNLEY'S newest art installation will become "invisible" on Friday.
Excitement is growing as time ticks away to the much-anticipated launch of Burnley's Big Art Project.

Invisible has been created by acclaimed UK arts collective Greyworld in 19 sites across Burnley.

Mr Andrew Shoben, lead artist from Greyworld, has worked with 15 young people to create a series of "invisible" paintings and projections, which appear when subjected to UV light.

The first of the paintings were unveiled to the young people involved and the Press by Mr Shoben on Monday ahead of the special launch celebration on Friday evening.

Burnley's Big Art Project has been two years in the making and is one of seven sites across the UK taking part. The process is being filmed for a series which is due to be aired on Channel 4 later this year.

Mr Shoben said: "When I arrived to talk to those young people all those months ago, I didn't realise we would end up with an artwork that for some of the time you can't see at all! But it's that play, between 'there' and 'not there' that is enticing and it gives us a great excuse to discover Burnley, its hidden spaces, its architecture and its people.

"It has been a lovely experience creating the artwork Invisible for the people of Burnley.

"We have enjoyed being able to play all over the town using it as our canvas.

"Working with the young people from the actual commissioning to the selection of sites and subjects has proved hugely inspiring. We hope that the people will enjoy the artwork as much as we do, there's a lot to discover."

The town centre celebration begins at 6 p.m. and includes an arts trail, a performance in the bandstand from the Big Bollywood Brass Band involving more than 40 musicians and dancers and a demonstration from Greyworld and the Big Art young people of how the UV paintings have been created.
