INTRODUCING the young people from the Burnley area who have helped to shape the Big Art project ...
JOANNA (13) Joanna is a popular member of the group and has become a real spokesperson. She is very committed and has really grasped the opportunity to learn about artists and artwork. Joanna has bridged a gap between her and members of the group to make lots of new friends.
MATT aka "BOGGLES" (16) Matt is smart, clever and witty and keeps everyone on their toes. He is highly regarded in the group. Matt particularly saw the potential in Greyworld because of their playful nature and I think this struck a chord with him. A keen basketball player and animator, Matt will go onto great things.
TOM (16) A good friend of Matt's and a well-respected member of the group. He came into his own on one of the residential trips, when faced with just the younger members of the group he chose to stick it out and become more of a leader. Tom is a talented guitarist and loves music.
JORDAN (14) Jordan's mind is full of crazy and wild ideas which have been perfect for the Big Art Project. Jordan had endless versions of what the artwork could be, often with lasers, but always questioning and offering up potential wacky creative solutions. Jordan is very, very loud, but this has made him a key player in the Big Art team.
ANTHONY (13) Anthony, along with a couple of other members of the group, really seems to have grown up over the past two years. He is a very quiet and gentle soul who has really absorbed the experiences of the Big Art Project. Anthony particularly responded to the artist Humberto Velez and the artwork The Welcoming in Liverpool, which really inspired him and helped him develop an understanding of art and what it can be.
YAZ (14) Yaz always has a story to tell from her very busy young life. Her friends are very important to her and the Big Art group has become part of that new network of friends. She is not always confident in front of the camera or with sharing her views, but she reflects well on her experiences one-to-one and wrote a really insightful nomination for a local hero.
LYDIA (14) Lydia has a close family which means the world to her. She is not overly confident in the group, but on a one-to-one basis Lydia has really enjoyed experiencing the artists and artworks. The visit to the Yorkshire Sculpture Park created a lasting memory for Lydia, particularly the Barbra Hepworth piece Family of Man. She is a talented artist and has pursued art projects with other organisations in Burnley.
NAILA (17) Naila is a committed student and has very high aspirations to get to Oxford or Cambridge. She is very thoughtful and loves a good debate, including some very interesting discussions with Matt. Now regularly volunteering at Burnley General Hospital, Naila is keen to be involved and sees the value of the Big Art Project within the community and how it hopes to bring people together.
ISMAIL (14) A keen Liverpool supporter, Ismail has been at all the key events and fitted right into the groups of lads on the project. Not always in a position to attend, Ismail has be there at the right time and really enjoyed his first trip to London especially seeing Buckingham Palace.
SAM (14) Dubbed The Legend by the young people, Sam is a young man of many talents, from rugby to music. He spent two weeks with the Big Art team on work experience and given the task of creating the newsletter Sam magnificently rose to the challenge and completed all aspects of the writing and design and even oversaw the printing.
WAYNE (13) Without a shadow of a doubt Wayne has been the heart and soul of Big Art Burnley. He is a true Burnley lad who loves a 'brew' and is a member of a local men's league darts team. Wayne has a natural sense of humour and has had everyone in stitches at many point throughout this project, and a legendary performance of Grease on YouTube is proof of his budding acting abilities.
NAZISH (14) Nazish is the cool, fashion-conscious and most creative member of the group. She has been involved in many arts projects in Burnley, is a fantastic visual artist and is currently developing her photography skills.
CHARLOTTE (14) Charlotte has been a very dedicated member of the group and has attended all of the key Big Art activities. She created her own video of the first Greyworld tour of Burnley town centre. Charlotte is a very popular member of the group and has developed a very articulate understanding of her Big Art experiences which she has able to share with her family.
LESEDI (14) Very quiet at first, Lesedi really came out of her shell during the first residential trip to Cumbria. Her personality has really blossomed over the past two years and she always seems to be smiling and has a caring nature. Lesedi took to the stage in the Big Art debate and became a star, particularly recording the radio advert at 2BR where she would like to start her future radio career.
HANNAH (14) A regular member of Burnley Youth Theatre, Hannah has been particularly good in front of the camera and been able to express her views during the Big Art process. She has developed into a very confident young person and will go onto great things. Hannah really enjoys the challenge of dealing with activities through workshops and, through the role of the client, has helped steer the creative process with Greyworld.
