A BURNLEY man receiving help for a drug problem died at home after taking an accidental overdose, an inquest heard.
Mr Steven Gorton (24), of Lyndhurst Road, was found dead by his mother on February 19th.
He had taken a cocktail of methadone, diazepam and butane gas, a cannister of which was found under his arm.
Burnley Coroner's Court was told Mr Gorton had a history of taking butane, cannabis and heroin but had been seeking help and appeared to be doing well.
His mother, Mrs Carol Duckworth, told the inquest her son was receiving a regular prescription for methadone but said a few days before he died he had started using butane gas again.
She said he had become paranoid and she had called his key worker to visit and try to calm him down.
Mrs Duckworth said: "He was doing really well but all of a sudden he started coming back later and later." She described him as a "lovable lad."
Pathologist Dr Zuhair Twaij, who carried out a post-mortem, said Mr Gorton died from a combination of a drug overdose and the use of butane.
Recording a verdict of accidental death East Lancashire Coroner Mr Richard Taylor said: "For some inexplicable reason in the middle of February he starts using butane again and on this occasion it's coupled with the use of methadone. I don't believe he would have had any idea that taking those two would have ended his life."
