MAGNIFICENT performances by both squads produced a double victory for Bassetlaw Boys over the City of Derby Boys current Divisional Cup holders and always one of the top primary schools teams in the country.
In a close fought game, only one goal separated the teams in the A squad s success.
Philip Slowey broke the deadlock early in the second half with a high shot from the edge of the box.
The B squad responded well to new coach Alan Pressley and turned in one of their best performances of the season.
Cuckney s Jacob Ball confidently took his chances to put Bassetlaw two in front by half-time.
And he completed his hat-trick with a well placed penalty before Derby scored a late consolation goal to leave the final score at 3-1.
Tomorrow, the opposition gets even tougher when Bassetlaw travel with two squads to Divisional League Champions, City of Leeds Boys.
The Basssetlaw squad is: Tommy Durrant, Karl Armiger, James Motley (Redlands), Tom Snow, Lee Sainthouse, Philip Slowey, Dane Walker, Connor Smith (Prospect Hill), Nathan Griffiths (Manton), Ben Turner (Haggonfields), Kegan Bannister, Lee Packard, Jordan Talbot (St John s), Greg O Driscoll (North Border), Drew Raynor (Carlton Ramsden), Robbie Campbell (Mattersey), Christopher Allwood (Carr Hill), Daniel McCusker (Holy Family), Andrew Marshall (St Anne s), James Waller (Beckingham), Lee Edmondson (Norbridge), Matthew Theaker (Ordsall), Jacob Ball (Cuckney), Michael Holland (Bracken Lane), Jak Purkiss (North Leverton).
Bassetlaw under 15s reached the last 16 of the English Schools FA Trophy with an excellent 2-1 away defeat of Walsall Boys.
Played on a very hard surface against strong opposition, Bassetlaw were quickly into their stride.
Midway through the half they went in front when West (Tuxford) threaded a through ball inside the full back for Hayden Zaccaria (Elizabethan) to run on and score.
Five minutes later, West made it 2-0 with a fine turn and unstoppable shot into the top right-hand corner.
The second half started with Walsall on the attack but Parker (Valley) produced a fantastic one handed save to deny the hosts.
Walsall did manage a late consolation with a shot from the edge of the box.
On the local scene, the draw for the Middle Divisions Cup semi-finals will take Priory, first time semi-finalists since the new school opened, back to headmaster Robin Woodhead s previous school Haggonfields.
Last year s beaten finalists Cuckney travel to Retford to play St Joseph s.
Redlands girls team matched the success of their boys when they won the Bassetlaw Indoor Five-a-side Tournament played at Bassetlaw Leisure Centre.
In their final game a win was needed against Clarborough to ensure first place. Jolene Ellerby hit the goal of the tournament from a tight angle after beating two players to make Redlands the champions and take them to the county finals in Mansfield next year.
Tuxford earned second place with Holy Family in third place following two draws and a 1-0 win over Cuckney thanks to a goal from Erin Fee.
